Study On The Utopian Narration Of Xu Xu's Novels

Xu Xu, as a scholarly writer, has the reputation of "Novel wizard". He has a lot of achievements, including poetries, proses, novels, and dramas, in which novels are the best illustration of his talents. Throughout his novels,the pursuit and exploration for the Utopia world is not only an important theme of his novel but also a starting point to interpret his novel, to understand his thought as well as his writing style. Based on this consensus, this paper, except for introduction and conclusion, has three parts as the main body:The first chapter mainly teases out and analyzes Xu Xu's Utopia novels. His Utopia novels can be divided into two categories:one is political Utopia calling for political modernity, which is embodied in the desire for the lord and freedom and the satire of totalitarian politics. the other one is questioning the aesthetic Utopia of enlightenment modernity,which is embodied in the construction of "native" world,"ghost" world,"Jiang hu" world and the ultimate world of "harmony".The second chapter mainly explores the reasons of Xu Xu's Utopia writing. The enlightenment of the May Fourth New Culture Movement and the influence of his life in France contributed to his pursuit of freedom, democracy, so he created political Utopian novel. For the question of enlightenment modernity, focus on humanity and love and the pursuit of harmony, he took the main character of the spirit of romantic novels, and based on absorbing resources of traditional and non rational factors,created a lot of aesthetic Utopia Novels.The third chapter mainly discusses the literature significance of Xu Xu's Utopia narration. In terms of Utopia literature history, Xu Xu not only carried on Utopia literature since the late Qing dynasty, but also he went further in different dimensions,bringing new vitality for the development of Utopia literature and providing Utopia novels with a sample for reference. Xu Xu's Utopia writing actively learned from the elegant and vulgar literary tradition. Guided by the combination view, his novels have the characteristic of combining of elegance and vulgarity of literary, which has undeniable significance in the development of modern Chinese literature.This paper holds that Utopia narration is an important aspect of Xu Xu's novels,which not only reveals his exploration of both people and ideal, but also reflects the changes of his thoughts. They are the manifestation of his complex ambivalence of escapism and concerns about the "people" and "country".
