Hyperbole as a rhetoric is widely used in language, which has become an indispensable method in language communication.Because of this,it is possible to form a large number of hyperbolic idioms as well. However, rhetoric has its limitations as a traditional research perspective. In this paper,we will analyze and explain the cognitive mechanism of hyperbolic idioms in contemporary Chinese language, and deepen the understanding of hyperbolic idioms, quantitative categories and conceptual integration theories. And then we can explore the ways of people’s cognitive and thinking.First of all,on the basis of analyzing and arranging all the 311 corpus we have collected,we classify the hyperbolic idioms from the quantitative categories perspective. And then we classify and define the concept of subjective quantity, summarizing the relationship between the subject quantitative and the objective quantitative.Afterwards,we analyze these hyperbolic idioms by using the theory of cognitive linguistics, the theory of metaphor and the theory of metonymy, and then make a further study about the semantic construction and cognitive mechanism of hyperbolic idioms. The process is divided into three categories, single concept integration, double concept integration and multiple conceptual integration. Finally,we summarize and analyze the cognitive level of hyperbolic idioms in the process of conceptual integration, and get the corresponding cognitive characteristics. In addition,we also found that some hyperbolic idioms express different semantics, and some alien hyperbolic idioms express the same meaning, about these two phenomena,we also carry out a discussion.
