There are few studies on the development of spoken Chinese fluency in the field of teaching oral Chinese as a foreign language.Further more, there are less research on the quantitative analysis of this part.On the basis of summarizing the research of scholars home and abroad, this thesis studies the development of Chinese spoken fluency of four Chinese learners in the first stage of Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University in Kenya by means of quantitative analysis.During the study, there are 24 short-term development trajectories and six long-term development trajectories of these four Kenyan Chinese learners. And some regularities were found:after a semester of Chinese language learning, there are some significant changes in the speed of speech, the average length of language, the average length of silence, etc.,which show that Kenyan learners' overall fluency in spoken Chinese has changed. However, these changes can't just be seen as progress. The results show that after a semester of Chinese learning, learners in the fluency indicators may be improved, while the overall maybe backward. This shows that for some learners in the early learning stages may pay more attention to the accuracy of language and ignore the development of fluency. In addition, this thesis analyzes the causes of the changes in fluency of Chinese speaking learners in Kenya, and points out the dialectical relationship between fluency, accuracy and complexity, the individual differences of learners, the situation and environment of classroom contact with Chinese, and other factors affect Kenyan Chinese learners' fluency development. Then accordingly put forward some teaching suggestions, and hope to provide some useful help for the teachers and learners.
