A Study Writing On The Female Image In The Epitaph Of The Song Dynasty

Taking the female epitaph of the Song Dynasty as the starting point of the study,this paper analyzes the female characteristics in the epitaph,observes the mentality and behavior of the women in the Song Dynasty under the Confucianist(儒学)ideology as the value orientation and public opinion,reappears the life scenes of the women in the Song Dynasty.Explores the embodiment of the ideal female image in the minds of the literati in the Song Dynasty,and the cultural connotation of the feminine image.Epitaph,the most presentation of the feminine material in the feudal society of "the male is superior to the female",is detailed and comprehensive in the records of the life stories of the female occupant of a tomb,which is the best in this aspect when compared with others.Compared with the varieties of the feminine image of the Song Ci,the females in the epitaph of the Song Dynasty showed showed a highly similar image feature.On the one hand,those women were willing to follow the norms and constraints of Confucianism on women’s speech,behavior,virtue and ability.On the other hand in the great trend of social development,they actively participate in the family and social undertakings,in order to strive to improve the value of self-life.This kind of female image is not only a true portrayal of the female life of the traditional society,but also the expectation of the ideal image under the desire of the reconstruction of the ideal ruler of Confucianism for the scholar-officials in the Song Dynasty.
