It has been 40 years since the establishment of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.Over the past 40 years,the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra has grown to be the world standard orchestra by improving their performance level and way of management.Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra enhanced their sound quality in performance by reformation of the Chinese national instruments.They expanded the repertoire of these instruments by holding the Infinite Chinese Music International Composition Competition and inviting composers for commission.In order to spread Chinese national orchestral music across the world,Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra performed in many countries.With a strong effort,this Orchestra helped improve the development of Chinese national orchestral music.In the first section,the author talks about the development of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra over the course of 40 years by analyzing the different Artistic Directors.In the second section,the author explains how Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra combined Western music and Chinese music.He interprets the commissioned orchestral piece The World of Insects as well as the Artistic Directors’ effort of crossover performance and national instrument reform.In the last section,the author analyzed his own commissioned piece for Infinite Chinese Music International Composition Competition—Oceans Apart based on his own personal experience of composing.At the end of the essay,the author concludes all main points.The author gives some good advice on how to improve Chinese national orchestral composition,orchestration and musicality through analyzing the development of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra also gives good examples on how to successfully manage the orchestra,business performances and how to combine different genres into the Chinese music.
