Language and culture are in inseparable relationship and cultural education cannot be ruled out during the language education.Moreover,in language education,cultural education plays an important role.Therefore,in order for learners to learn the language perfectly,they must fully understand the country's cultural background.Language education without cultural education is meaningless.The textbook is the most basic tool used in learning a language,and the most basic medium to have contact with the language and the culture.Therefore,it is necessary to implement the correct cultural education through the textbook when conducting language study.While there are many varieties of elementary Chinese language textbooks currently flooding in the Korean market,the contents of textbooks are mostly similar to each other.Of the Chinese language textbooks,most of them include the cultural aspect of China.However,as the textbooks majorly focus on text,grammar,and exercise questions,the cultural aspect behind the language is considered 'unnecessary' and is quite common to have it completely skipped in classes and lessons.Thus,this paper will examine the cultural aspect behind the compilation of Chinese language textbooks in Korean market and recommend suggestions on cultural aspects and cultural education methods of the above teaching materials.Two textbooks used in this paper are called NEW START CAMPUS CHINESE 1 and NEW STYLE CHINESE 1.The study was conducted in two distinct methods.First,Statistical analysis of the cultural aspects of textbooks.Second,Analysis on survey taken by students using the textbookThrough the survey,the students' basic knowledge of Chinese culture,as well as their response and the understanding of the textbook are shown.The following is examined through the questionnaire.First,Students' understanding of the Chinese culture.Second,Students'interest in the Chinese culture.Third,Students' awareness of relationship between cultural understanding and Chinese language education.Finally,Students' satisfaction and evaluation on textbooks.This essay was written to emphasize the correct and interesting culture education methods through textbooks.By analyzing the cultural aspect of the above textbooks and based on the analysis of the surveys conducted by the students who used the above textbooks,this investigation aims not only to identify the insufficiency in the current textbooks,but also to inquire the cultural information and the culture teaching methods the students prefer.This paper will serve as a step forward to better teaching by introducing better methods for cultural education.
