In recent years,China has been experiencing significant changes under the atmosphere of globalization, which has profoundly improved our national strength and international status, and has attracted more and more attention from all over the world. In the academic field of publicity materials translation,China has been making magnificent achievements.Generally speaking, translation, especially the international publicity translation,is a bridge built for mutual understanding between two culture and a very useful tool to establish a favorable international image and create a desirable international environment for development.High-quality international publicity translation has witnessed plenty of achievements regarding translation. The goal of international publicity translation is to ensure the target readers' accurate comprehension of the source texts(ST).To achieve this purpose, translators should try to overcome the differences in style, logic, and culture between Chinese and English languages and exploit a target language-oriented approach to make the target readers completely and accurately understand the information of the ST.Therefore, instead of translating the original Chinese publicity materials literally, translators should subjectively make use of proper translation strategies in their translation, such as deletion, addition,or reconstructing etc. That is to say, translators should fully employ their subjectivity in the process of translation. In some cases, this might violate the traditional translation principles, which put great emphasis on “faithfulness” and “equivalence”.How can this translation phenomenon be explained? This thesis tries to find the answer in the perspective of the Dissipative Structure Theory. In the process of international publicity translation, translators' subjectivity is embodied in their initiative expression, which plays a major role in translation.Under the guidance of dissipative structure theory, this thesis conducts dynamic researches on translators' subjective initiative in international publicity translation and tries to summarize a more effective theoretical guideline. The strict requirements of publicity translation do not mean that translators can only produce satisfactory translation only when their cognitive system is in a stably-closed state. On the contrary,in spite of the fluctuations, the guidance of dissipative structure theory can assist translators in exploring their initiative fully.Under the Dissipative Structure Theory, there are four requisites to a good translation: First, cognitive system is open so as to allow the exchange of information and energy with the outside world.Second, the state of being far from equilibrium can help to break the mindset.Third, random fluctuations should be in non-linear movement. Finally, the mutation will be magnified enough to reach to a new stable and ordered status. This thesis has use several different types of international publicity materials as linguistic data to discuss how translator can exert their subjective initiative in international publicity translation,so as to produce a much better translation.
