This study focuses on the relationship between the language power and the culture power embodied in the top-down signs and bottom-up signs in Shanghai's language ecosystem. In the top-down signs,it is found that there is a relatively obvious reflection of the language power of Chinese in the official ideology and the social status of the corresponding group, while the global lingua franca status of English is also reflected, though its exorbitant language power barely reflects the social status of its authentic corresponding group. However, other foreign languages reflect rather low language power.Such facts are relative to the purpose of the top-down sign.In the bottom-up signs, language power is consistent with the social status of the group, but there is also some dislocation which is mainly caused by the culture power. In the author's opinion, due to the limited objective condition, the culture power analysis should focus on the text interpretation in combination with the factual social context instead of excessive investigations into the sign creator's inner motivation.Meanwhile,in the culture power analysis from perspective of the language power of bottom-up signs,it is necessary to note the culture power related to the “???????????? ???????(precedential phenomenon)” of other cultures in the text.
