| The “NP1+V+le+You+NumP” Construction are frequently used in Spoken Chinese,and also we can find some of them in written form.But there are some different viewpoints of You’s categories,they are taken as verbs,focus markers,functional categories and so on.Based on theta-role theory,X’ theory and functional category hypothesis,we performed an objective description of this construction,and our focus is on the categories of You.Firstly,based on BCC corpus,we performed an objective description of each component.And we find in this construction,the NP1 can get a variety of semantic roles and it tends to be definite.From the valence perspective,we divide the verbs into one-valence verbs,bivalent verbs and trivalent verbs.And it is worth noting that the valence of verbs can be changed.From the semantic perspective,those verbs can serve as state verbs,action verbs,result verbs and accomplish verbs.Additionally,Asp “le”(了),“zhe”(着)and “guo”(过)can also appear in this format.The NumP in this construction can only be realized as NumP,and if you change NumP to other NP,the syntactic features of “You” will be changed.NumPs can be divided into noun-measure phrases,verb-measure phrases and timing quantifier phrases,and they can act as patient,object or time.“You” means “reaching to a certain amount”,and it can not be categorized as a verb.Besides the syntactic positions of adverbs are not fixed,they can appear before verb,“You” or NumP.Secondly,based on the features of “You”,we put forward three hypothesis,respectively claiming that “You” can be verb,determiner or verbal functional category.It turns out that “You” can not be treated as verb,because it will leave You’s features unexplained and theta-role theory disobeyed.“You” possesses features of a verb,so we can not treated “You” as a determiner.Instead,we treat it as a Topic maker,by doing so,we can not only explain its syntactic features but also can explain the coexisting situation between “You” and “Shi”(是).Our research also shows that NumP can not be indefinite,which allows for NumP to be a topic.Finally,we made a conclusion of this article. |
