| This report is based on the technical specifications of the Kuwait South AL Mutlaa Residential Construction Project. The architectural English contract has its own unique style and usually uses a number of nominal words and attributive clauses to make it more objective and accurate. So it is very important to deal with nominal words and attributive clauses when English contracts are translated into Chinese. When the literal translation cannot express clearly,it is necessary to adopt some other translation strategies to conform with the expression of Chinese habits according to the context and enhance the readability of the translation. The translator selected the first chapter, the responsibility of the contractor for the technical specifications,to do some research job.The research focuses on nominalized words and attributive clauses. To deal with these nominalized words properly, the translator mainly adopts the method of conversion, which can make the meaning of words in target language more faithful, but meanwhile conversion, sometimes, will lead to the unequivalence on forms between the original expressions and the target ones. And to deal with these attributive clauses properly, the translator mainly adopts the two methods, one is splitting, which is suited to the long attributive clauses, the other is fusion which is suited to the short attributive clauses. These methods get rid of the same form and order of the original structure and make the translation more smooth and nature. In the process of the translation,it is easy to produce misleads by breaking the order,so it is important to focus on the logical of the original sentence and make the target sentence more clearly. |
