The object of this research paper is to investigate and attend to the issue of teaching Korean students who are at different levels of Chinese language, namely beginner, intermediate and advanced.Based on the results from the first listening test, the second test will be specifically targeted towards improving the understanding of the voice in different environments, word frequency and different places, their ability to use syllables correctly and their aptitude for recognizing tones. These results can then be analyzed there after recommendations are submitted to,improve teaching and learning proficiency. This paper comprises of five sections. The first section summarizes the research done on the teaching of Chinese tones as a foreign language. On this basis, the object and purpose of this paper are determined, and the theoretical basis and research methods of this paper are expounded to provide clarification, showing the significance and value of said paper. The second section is based on the experimental analysis on the tones of the Korean students. The design of the experiment is briefly examined, followed by the three levels(beginner, intermediate and advanced)of Korean students listening to the results of the statistics and analysis. The third section comprises of the analysis of the two groups of tones used, followed by the clarification of the experimental design. The 2+2 combination of the Korean students at the advanced level is divided into three aspects: difference in language environment, similarities in word frequency and the ability to use syllables. In the fourth section, conclusions are made on all the results and analysis done. The forth section is he reasons and suggestions for teaching. The last section makes summary. We hold the general belief that the phonetics aspect of the Chinese language is not something which can be achieved in a short space of time but need to be achieved in the long term.Based on the level of the student, this would determine theiraptitude for tone distinction and use.Chinese teachers should take into full consideration the level at which the South Korean students are at;catering a course which is suited towards the student, based on their level(beginner, intermediate, advanced). It was found, that the Korean students of the word group,of the various levels, all had common difficulties whilst taking the listening test.To assist with these difficulties several strategies were put in place.Such strategies like: analysis of the individual levels in relation to the difficulties, summing up the causes of the errors and putting forward recommendations to assist the teachers tasked with teaching about the tones and voice, providing reference material and further help. This research paper can therefore be providing valuable references for the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, show casing the many practical and theoretical significance.
