Research On Malaysian Chinese Social Code Switching

There are several historical and other social factors which make understanding of the application of the Malaysian Chinese language extremely complex. In this paper, causes and forms of code-switching of the Malaysian Chinese language in social interaction was studied. The purpose was to understand and describe what happens to Malaysian second language users of Chinese. In other words, this paper analyzes the status of code-switching and analyzes the types of Chinese social code conversion from three aspects (The paraphrase between linguistic and Chinese, the code-switching analysis between English and Chinese, and the code-switching analysis between Chinese and local dialects). By way of analysis, the study assesses reasons for the Malaysian Chinese social code conversion, as a second language user.This study used literature review, interviews, field observation, questionnaires and empirical investigation to study how the Malaysian speaker uses Chinese in oral communication with reference to code conversion phenomenon. The study also used analysis of Malaysian Chinese social code conversion of reasoning and explored the phenomenon of Malaysian Chinese language communication with the hope of helping Chinese langu8age teachers to help second language learners of Chinese in Malaysia.This study established that second language users of Chinese in Malaysia make a lot of code-switching in oral conversations and causes and implications of that have been examined in this thesis.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part: the introduction of the article,introduced several concepts that need to be clarified in this paper, including Chinese,dialect and code switching. At the same time, on the basis of summarizing the previous research results, this thesis explains the research methods, research steps and innovation that the study has made. The second part focuses on the status of Malaysian Chinese language use, including language frequency surveys. The third part discusses the causes of the Malaysian Chinese code-switching phenomenon, and analyzes the reasons from the perspective of the change of language status, the development of science and technology in the times, the improvement of educational environment, the difference of language learning ability and language habit. The fourth part summarizes the full text points, and points out the research value of this paper.
