A Study Of Chinese Idiomatic Expressions With Dressing Words On Conceptual Blending Theory

China has a long history of dressing and is reputed as “Capital of the Garments”,which means dressing is closely related to the daily life of human beings.Idiomatic expressions are playing an indispensable part in Chinese language,and are widely used in people's daily talk.Although Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words as a branch of Chinese lexicon,are worth of studying,this field has stayed uncultivated for a long time.In the 1990 s,the theory of metaphor and metonymy was brought into China.With the fruitful development of cognitive linguistics,to explore Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words becomes much valuable.With the help of conceptual blending theory,this thesis aims at analyzing the conceptual mechanism of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words.The methodologies employed are qualitative and quantitative research method and description and interpretation research method.It points out that there exist two basic approaches and five models of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words' semantic integration.The findings of the thesis will become an important complement to the cognitive studies of Chinese language.The thesis is composed of six chapters.Chapter ?: describe the reason and the significance of the study,the present research findings,methods and language materials used in the research.Chapter ?: analyze the structure of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words.Chapter ?: explore the semantic relation of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words.Chapter ?: illustrate semantic integration of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words using conceptual blending theory.Chapter ?: find out the reasons of Chinese idiomatic expressions with dressing words' semantic integration.Chapter ?: draw a conclusion on the above discussions.
