Doris Lessing is one of the most important women writers in English literature. She writes about people's living condition as well as the survival of animals. She probes the inner world of adults as well as the cruelty and indifference of children. Lessing published the novel The Golden Notebook in1962. This work with its novel, distinctive form and rich connotation won the Nobel Prize in Literature for Lessing in 2007. The thesis carries out the study on Anna's split personality and dreams from the perspective of psychoanalysis. By analyzing the id, ego and superego of Anna's split personality presented in The Golden Notebook in detail, this thesis demonstrates the spiritual plight of Anna. By interpreting Anna's dreams in detail, this thesis depicts the struggle of the heroine in her inner world. This thesis further explains the reasons of the heroine's spiritual split and the difficult process of personality reshaping,mental integration and gaining a new life.
