There can be no doubt that Stephen King(1947-)and his Different Seasons can make readers think of Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption immediately(hereafter abbreviated as Rita). As one of the most famous novella of King's brilliant work, once Rita was available,it climbed to the top of the New York Times' s best seller list immediately, and the adapted film from this novella is labeled as the perfect film of the history and has been awarded many Oscar Awards. So definitely it is meaningful to attempt at a relevant study of it.This thesis is an attempt to combine the relevant theories of Narratology and Stylistics, namely, the theoretical framework of Narratological Stylistics,to make an analysis of the text of this novella, aiming at showing that a comprehensive analysis by narratological stylistics can more fully reveal the theme of this literary works and the writer's unique view of the world.Rita integrates a deep thought into the underlying text through the design of detailed activities of typical characters,so that readers can appreciate on their own.The novella is experimental and creative, and this creativity is not only displayed in the stylistic features, but also in the arrangement of the various parts of the narrative.Rita is a platform of displaying various narratological and stylistic techniques,a platform on which it is possible to explore a variety of innovative skills of forms.More importantly, this novella is imbued with the idea of salvation and humanity, which shows the author's concern for the society and even for the whole world. Therefore,Rita tallies perfectly with the study of this thesis, that is,the skill of form in the work is closely related to the theme of the work, and to the writer's understanding of the world. This thesis consists of five parts, and the principal part of this thesis tries to present theframework of Narratological-Stylistics,from three crucial aspects, namely, time structure, spatial form, and perspective, and, combined with the corresponding stylistic features of the three aspects, analyzes the thematic meaning of Rita--humanity and salvation systematically and comprehensively.First, through the demonstration of the narrative skills of that three aspects, the overall structure of the text as well as the effect and function produced by the narrative skills to the theme are presented;then the stylistic analysis of the language further illustrates the characteristics of the text, and verifies, explains and enriches what Narratology has found at the same time;last,a more comprehensive analysis of the profound theme of the work is made by combining Narratology and Stylistics.Through studies,we find that the arrangement of time structure enriches readers' knowledge about characters' personality, the physical space and abstract space dig deeply into the characters' state of mind, and Red's perspective leads readers into the novel, step by step, making them feel the shining humanity of Andy personally on the scene. These three aspects, together with the techniques both at macroscopic level and microcosmic level, present the theme of Rita in a tridimensional way. This thesis comes to the conclusion, that the combination of Narratology and Stylistics, with the former analyzing the structures at the macroscopic level, the latter exploring the language details at the microcosmic level, namely, the comprehensive analysis of Narratological-Stylistics can give a more convincing explanation to the novella, and reveal the theme of the novella more deeply. In addition, the theme of this novella can also make a great inspiration to people's real life.
