A Report On The Translation Of United Technologies Corporation Standard Terms And Conditions Of Purchase

With the development of international trade,the terms and conditions of purchase among foreign-related enterprises have gradually become a kind of normative documents with a certain legal effect and a standard form to restrain the trade partners which helps to maintain the international trade market order.Such documents are full of professional and highly formal words and expressions,and the quality of the translation often influences the harmony of international trade.The material selected in this report is made by the United Technologies Corporation and shows the details of totally 48 purchasing terms and conditions with more than 18000 words,including establishing business relations,transporting and accepting products and etc.The translation work is done by the author and another translator,the author is responsible for the first half of the translation,the other translator is responsible for the latter part of the translation.Through the analysis of the text,the translator use Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory of the translation report.In terms of translating business text,the translator should take the communicative purpose as the core standard of business English translation,and use suitable translation methods when translating the text in order to produce functional equivalence.Then in the part of analysis of translation cases,the translator chooses the specific translation content as an example and uses Nida's functional equivalence theory to give an explanation about the translation methods and tactics used in translating the full text.At the end of this report,the translator summarizes some experience: Before translating the text,the author should fully understand it to ensure an accurate translation;when translating the text,the author should use the translation theory to guide the whole translation work.
