The Tenacious Warriors In The Marginal World

The Chinese Canadian literature in English has been an important part of the world literature because of its fresh and unique perspective,scene setting and writing skills,especially famous for the typical and representative works The Ghost Train,The Jade Peony,The Midnight at the Dragon Cafe and The Concubine's Children of the four celebrated Chinese Canadian writers Paul Lee,Wayson Choy,Judy Fong Bates and Denise Chong who all win the Governor General's Award successively.The four works are all children-centered text and contain these authors' common collective unconsciousness under the Chinese and Canadian cultures,therefore these Chinese children are abstracted as a kind of image symbolization under the writers' pen.Image,as the central conception in image theory,is in a dynamic state varying with the time,while one of its fixed character is that it stresses the representation of "Yi" through "Xiang",that is to say,image is closely related to emotion,imagination and objective correlative.The valorous,persistent,independent and positive Chinese children in the above four works not only contain the experiences of the authors,but also their emotions and intentions,being the image symbolization with their common symbolized sense that they are abstracted as the tenacious warriors living in the marglized space between the Chinese and Canadian cultures.Firstly,facing the double cultural conflicts in the aspects of language,education and customs,these Chinese children smartly and accordingly select their expression way,education mode and custom values,representing their wisdom and resilience in the process of adapting the cultural conflicts.Secondly,they are brave to challenge the dual deep-rooted cultural authority,boldly querying on the Chinese Confucianism and patriarchy and actively rebelling against the Canadian racialism and hegemonism,indicating their persistence and tenacity towards the cultural authority.Thirdly,they hold the potential of further combining the dual cultures and surpassing them,not confined themselves in the English-centered language pattern,containing the tendency of transforming and integrating the dual cultural values and gradually forming their unique character and cultural identification.Finally comes to the conclusion that these Chinese Canadian children are signified as the tenacious warriors in the Chinese Canadian writers'works because of their continuity and intersectionality,who confront and complement each other in the process of the cultural collisions and communications.As the symbolization of warriors in the works for their similarity and repetition in literature,they are the in-between existence rather than the victims or leftovers under the dual cultures,further reflecting the Chinese Canadian writers' great historical responsibility and cultural combination value by depicting the Chinese children images,realizing the ideas'exploration and spiritual transcendence.
