"Die Zauberflote" is the last opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on 1791.It reflects not only Mozart's high-level professional compositional techniques,but also the Masonic ideas.Sarastro was chosen to be researched in this article.Through introducing the composer and the opera's background,the author would like to analyze Sarastro's personality and the different relationships between him and other principals by using the libretto book of "Die Zauberflote"Then,this article will lay out some ideas and notes of how to perform this character by analyzing the harmony,tonality etc.of Sarastro's singing part.Because of the different objective condition,it's very important to know how to perform this character with the right personality on the stages in different styles.The author wishes to give some references of performing Sarastro to the singers who are performing or willing to perform this character.In "Die Zauberflote",there are still more aspects waiting to be researched by people.Through analyzing Sarastro's personality and explaining how to perform this character in this article,the author wishes to have more people to pay attention to research "unimportant" roles rather than only leading or title roles in opera field.It will be really helpful to enrich opera characters' analysis and discussion.
