English writing,as an important out-put language skill,has been much more paid attention,and Alexandra R.K.(1990)once said “out-put language skills especially for writing and speaking in language learning is much more difficult than the in-put language skills”,hence the difficulty of English writing can be seen.Besides,with the continuous deepening of curriculum reform,Jian and Lu(2000)said “although the English writing teaching for English majors in universities has made great progress in teaching methodology,some shortcomings and problems especially in the effective way to improve English majors’ writing ability still exist”,so the purpose of this thesis is to find a good way to help English majors improve their writing ability by applying the process-oriented approach,in order to reach that goal this thesis will mainly focus on the following three questions :1)Can the process writing approach help English majors enhance their confidence towards writing?2)Can the process writing approach help to improve English majors’ writing competence? In what aspects,if it can.In this study,two classes of English majors was randomly chosen in HulunBeir University,one class(45 students)was randomly designated as the experimental class,it was taught by using the process-oriented approach and the other one(43 students)was called control class,it was taught by applying the traditional writing teaching(namely the product-oriented approach).After doing the pre-test and pre-questionnaire which is about students’ confidence towards writing,teaching experiment which lasted four months(from September to December)began,at last the post-test and post-questionnaire were proceeded at the last week.The result shows: the process-oriented approach can be much more better in enhancing their writing confidence and improving their writing competence,thus conclusion can be made as follows: applying the process-oriented approach is much more effective and feasible way to improve writing skills and ability of English majors.
