The quest for the Holy Grail is an important theme in literary works.From the "Bible" Christians have never stopped chasing the Holy Grail.Human civilization has evolved with the development of society so the meaning of Holly Grail has been continuously enriched and developed.In Christianity Holly Grail refers to the "spirit",and in the modern society Holly Grail meas "fame,social status" to us.Human beings have never stopped chasing the Holy Grail.In literary works,the Holy Grail is the spiritual belief of human beings.After the two World Wars,the society has changed tremendously,and many literary works are exploring the issue about lack of faith.The Great Gatsby and Small World has revealed the issue of boastful and exaggerating in the western modern society.The lack of faith makes the western society feel lost when they reviewed the two World Wars.The Great Gatsby represent by the 1920s American Society of the hypocrisy and Small World tells us the social snobbery of British academia in1960s.Before the two World Wars,the UK is the center of the world,there culture has spread all over the world;after the two World Wars,the USA is the center of the world,its culture deeply influenced every corner of the world.Before the wars,British culture had a profound influence on American society.After the wars,American culture had a great influence on British society.The Great Gatsby and Small World represent two different model of the quest for the Holy Grail.Therefore,in this paper,the two works as a representative,to explore the issue which is modern "knights" chased the Holy grail.
