| This is a translation project report for an autobiographical novel--Yes Please,it extracts the third part of the novel.This part reveals how the writer begins to do improvisation,especially the difficulties and chances she got when doing it,and depicts some advice about life put forward by the writer’s parents.The purpose of this translation project report is not only to introduce this novel to Chinese readers,but also to offer some guidance to the life of Chinese readers.Meanwhile,it is also an opportunity for Chinese readers who are interested in American comedy to know more about the development of it.The translation of an autobiographical text belongs to literal translation.Main difficulties in the translation process lie in how to deal with understanding differences aroused by cultural differences between China and the West,and how to implement the corresponding translation strategies to Chinese.To solve these problems,functional equivalence by Eugene ·A ·Nida is adopted to explore relevant translation strategies such as liberal translation,transliteration,division and linear translation to deal with corresponding difficulties and reflect the language style and writing style of the original text while embodying the content of the original text,revealing the main ideas of the original text,and making the target readers better understand the content of the original one.Through this project,the translator fully experiences the importance of preparation before translating,especially understanding the life experience of the writer and the background knowledge relevant to the original text.In the process of translation,the theoretical knowledge should be adapted to different translation strategies to reflect the expected results of the original texts at the very highest level.After translation,the translator should read the whole translated text for many times to make repeated revision to guarantee it’s quality. |
