Huangdi Neijing,an ancient classic in Chinese Medicine(CM),is the theoretical basis and practice norms of CM,and still serves as the guideline for medical research and clinical treatment in China now.As an ancient classic which is the theoretical foundation of CM,there are a lot of culture-loaded words in Huangdi Neijing which embody the ancient culture of our country and CM.The translation of culture-loaded words is the key and difficulty in the translation of Huangdi Neijing,which is directly related to the translation quality of the whole translation of Huangdi Neijing.Relevance Theory is one of the most influential pragmatic theories in recent years,and it was proposed by Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson.Relevance Theory is a branch of cognitive pragmatics.It holds that communication relates to human cognition,communication is an ostensive-inferential process,and it involves the viewpoints of cognitive environment of communicators,processing effort of hearer,contextual effect,and so on.And Sperber and Wilson put forward the presumption of relevance and the principle of relevance.After then,Gutt,a student of Sperber and Wilson,discovered that Relevance theory has a great explanatory power for translation and can explain all kinds of translation.By taking Relevance Theory as the theoretical basis,and the translation versions of Ilza Veith and LI Zhaoguo as example,culture-loaded words are selected from Chapter 1 to Chapter 34 in Huangdi Neijing to study the translation process and translation strategies of culture-loaded words in Huangdi Neijing under the guidance of Relevance Theory.In pursuit of optimal relevance in culture,according to the classification of culture by Nida,the culture-loaded words are classified into material culture,social culture,religious culture,linguistic culture,and ecological culture to be analyzed.By applying the translation strategies of Relevance Theory to the translation of culture-loaded words,it is concluded that translation methods of literal translation,transliteration,free translation,and addition can be used.It is hoped that the direct translation strategy and indirect translation strategy can provide certain reference for CM translation.
