Epic "Gesar" In The New Period Of Protection And Inheritance

Gesar,the Tibetan hero epic which was inscribed on United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in 2009,is the world’s longest hero epic that has been sung by the Tibetan people.It is an encyclopedia of Tibetan folk culture.Its protection and inheritance work has always been the focus of Gesar academia and reached world consensus under the specific context that the cultural exchanges increasingly frequent,mainstream culture culverts the marginal culture and traditional culture being serious affected by modern civilization.These issues also affect the future protection and inheritance of the Epic of Gesar.Taking the Hegel’s epic as the core,supplemented by visions of cultural anthropology,the author systematic discusses and analyses the issue of how to protect and inherit the Epic of Gesar in the new period.Chapter I By compiling the survey resources from field trip investigation to master the currently conserving and inheriting situation of Epic of Gesar in three main Tibetan areas;Retrospect and look ahead the conservation and inheritance of Epic Gesar practiced by local government,research institution and social groups in the past or now.Chapter II By editing the notes of interviewing artists;Summarize the drafts of interviewing the public;Analyze and interpret the writings from researchers of Epic Gesar;The values embodied in Epic Gesar,which is distinguishing from what Buddhism advocates,however,is clothed in the cloak of promoting Buddhism;Push aside the seemly superficial contradictions,what inside is the ethos formed by the fusion of Buddhism and locally Tibetan cultures.The values make up the Tibetans’ spiritual emptiness under the influence of Buddhism,showing a completed mental world of Tibetans,therefore,have been sung so far.Chapter III By looking forward to the future of Tibetan tourism,cultural elements of Epic Gesar could be explored in order to create attracting tourism products.Then,the tourists who have experienced the tourism products would be free media to advertise the Epic of Gesar.Meanwhile,taking advantage of the speed and breadth of the new media,the Epic Gesar will be spread not only inside Tibetan areas,but also all over the world.The Government and research institutions are still crucial drivers of the protection and inheritance of Gesar.It’s their responsibility to lead Gesar to enter its novel development through coordinating all resources,Taking efforts from government,research institutions and social organizations;relying on propagation of tourism and new media;Taking core values inside Epic of Gesar as a flag,will increase the national self-confidence and the national pride,in order to further achieve the goal that is building a virtuous cycle for Epic of Gesar Protection and Inheritance.
