Death Narrative Of Shen Congwen’s Novels

In Shen Congwen’s works,he showed the pursuit of human beauty and natural life,but the fear of death hidden behind the pastoral-style Xiangxi world is still difficult to erase.The death narratives in his works which were full of cruel vocabularies such as disease,depression,suicide,revenge,beheading and fighting were incompatible with the lyrical patterns of Xiangxi.The narrative of death that he presented for us was not a Utopian world but a clash of writing in the Xiangxi world.Shen Congwen’s death narrative works in different periods not only reflected the narrative attitude of his own writing psychology and death,but also the evolution of his emotional experience.This paper got ride of the single research cule of“the unity of opposite between urban life and Xiangxi spirit”in usual research model.In order to get closer to the real Shen Congwen,this paper analyzed the different forms of death narration in his novels and explored his unique psychological and aesthetic care in the narrative,which redefined the true meaning behind the language form.This paper is covered by four sections:The first section: The cultural psychology of death narrative.This section mainly discussed the historical and cultural traditions and psychological roots that affected the performance and aesthetic taste of Shen Congwen’s death narrative works.The regional cultural traditions of Xiangxi’s "Shangwu and Savage" not only shaped the character temperament of Shen Congwen,but also the history of his death narrative creation and aesthetic taste.In his childhood experience,the understanding of the subconscious of death which formed by the death of family relatives became the psychological motivation of death writing.The military life had brought the personal experience of the death of the scene,which became an important material in his writing.All of these had laid the groundwork for the writing of Shen Congwen’s death narrative works,and provided the basis for traceability.Section two: Imitation of death-the illness experience of death narrative in Shen Congwen ’s novels.In Shen Congwen’s early works,he was used to writing about the death of narrative disease.In his city life,he was always a identity of the other without the sense of belonging.At that time,his body was suffering from the disease.All of these made him psychological anxious about death.The resistance of death of the youth he wrote was the spirit of self-portrait against the city in his early works.The description of disease in Shen Cong Wen’s works was not only a performance of the living and mental conditions of the youth in the city,but also a point of the writer’s physical illness and non-healthy mental.During this period,imitation of death was his choice of literature and the way to treat the physical and mental illness.Section three: Appreciating death-the peak experience of death narrative in Shen Congwen ’s novels.The pain of violence and the pleasure of loving suicide were two kinds of artistic form which reflected the ultimate of death.Facing death,he created art to confront death and transcended the fear of death of life itself to show love and violence.In order to highlight the noble life,he made the love and violence as the aesthetic object to death.He was not only interested in such a conflict writing,but also used another angle to appreciate the different forms of life.In the peak experience of the art of death,he showed narcissism of artistic creation.The fourth section: Dilute the death-the lonely experience of death narrative in Shen Congwen’s novels.Shen Congwen,who was in the mature creation period,showed the dilution of death and the invisible writing and emotional control of death in his writing.Different from the previous works,the meaning of life and the artistic form of death in this period were gradually diluted.The death became the background of constructing Xiangxi pastoral.In his works,the thinking of death let the life return to the original state and the individual existence restore the original natural state.In his writing,death was the witness of the loneliness of the individual.Shen Congwen was a writer of life,and he would not write death easily.His narrative of death was not done at once,but with his whole literary career until the end of his life.
