A Report On The E-C Translation Of Nothing To Lose,Everything To Gain(Chapters 1 To 5)

This article is a translation practice report,and the translation practice material is excerpted from the autobiography Nothing To Lose,Everything To Gain wrote by Ryan Blair,a rich entrepreneur and writer from the United States.In this report,on the basis of translation materials and with the guide of Liu Miqing's Treatise on the Style of Translation,the writer analyzes the text style of the autobiography from the aspects of lexical markers,syntactic markers,textual markers,the work's inherent quality,and the author's spiritual temperament.Also,the writer gives a translation of the original text according to the transcoding translation strategies.In this way,how to accurately locate the original style and to convey the style properly in the translation is explored in the report.Liu Miqing believes that the style can be seen in the "shape",embodied in the specific words,sentences and discourses.Hereby,Liu puts forward the stylistic markers theory,and gives different transcoding translation strategies to solve the problem of style according to different situations.As an entrepreneur and writer,Ryan Blair has his own unique style of writing,so the translator should pay attention to analyzing the language style of the biography by means of the stylistic markers theory,and then reproduce the writing characteristics and personal feelings by using Liu Miqing's transcoding translation strategies.This report argues that in order to realize the reproduction of the biographical text style,translators must firstly understand the intention and background information of the author,then extract the words,sentences and discourses that reflect the original style,try to understand what the author thought and felt,and lastly choose appropriate translation strategies to reproduce the original style.The report consists of five parts:introduction,task description,task process,cases analysis and practice summary.After the process of writing this report,the author has got a deeper understanding of translation style theory,and has gradually realized the importance of the theory to English-Chinese translation practice.Meanwhile,the author has also mastered some translation skills for the Reproduction of the style,and has accumulated some experience in the translation.
