The Teaching Profession-Present and Future is an educational academic book written by A.Reis Monteiro in November 2014.Education is the cornerstone of the revitalization of the nation and social progress. The quality of education has a close relation with the development of the teaching profession.Professor Monteiro reviews the development process of the teaching profession and discusses whether the profession has a future from the historical perspective. The 7th chapter of this book is chosen as the source text of this translating practice. This chapter is divided into five parts. In the first part, the writer describes the development in several countries of Teaching Councils, which is the general term for the teaching profession's self-governing bodies and puts forward the idea that if the teaching profession's self-regulation continues to be exceptional world-wide,it is because it meets with resistances. The fundamental resistance is mainly from the political and trade unions and two examples are given to explain in detail. What's more, the author also summarizes the arguments and benefits of professional self-regulation.This book includes many educational terms and cites many documents and conferences.According to Newmark's text type theory, this book belongs to the informative one. Therefore, communicative translation strategy is mainly used when translating. In this translation report, the thesis author explains how to solve the difficulties encountered in the translation process from the word and sentence aspects.Under the guidance of communicative translation strategy, the translator strives to convey the meaning accurately, and at the same time to achieve that the audiences' response to the translation is the same as the original readers' response to the original.Through this translation practice, the translator not only has a clear understanding of the translation of academic works and the long and complex sentences, but also accumulates the experience of translation.
