At present,to study the abroad acceptance of "Wen xuan",the abroad translation of "Wen xuan" that foreign researchers will first contact with must to be paid attention to.To skip the translation and directly to study the acceptance,is nothing else but a castle in the air.This paper,through the comparative study,text analysis,data analysis and other research methods,to study English translation of Fu form of "Wen xuan" from translation masterpiece of Professor David R.Knechtges,which is recognized as the best translation by Western scholars.The paper consists of four chapters,including the studies of the translation,notes,progress of their predecessors and the impact and inspiration of Professor David R.Knechtges’ translation "Wen xuan" respectively.The first chapter investigates David R.Knechtges’ translation of Fu form of"Wen xuan" from the semantic,sentence pattern and phonological aspects,deeming that it tries to maintain the original architectural beauty and music beauty as much as possible in the premise of faithfully conveying the original information.The second chapter,based on the statistical data,investigates the annotations of "Wen xuan" of David R.Knechtges’ translation and discusses its contents,annotation methods,annotation characteristics and characteristic causes.The third chapter compares "Wen xuan" of David R.Knechtges’ translation with other three most influential western translators who translated many Fu forms(Arthur Waley,Erwin Von Zach and Burton Watson)in detail,and further highlights the unique value of David R.Knechtges’ translation of "Wen Xuan".The last chapter further elaborates and briefly introduces the influence of David R.Knechtges’ translation of "Wen xuan" in Chinese and foreign academic circles,meanwhile,points out some aspects of improvement.It also summarizes the methodological significance that David R.Knechtges’ translation of "Wen xuan" brings to the English translation of traditional Chinese classics and ancient Chinese literature research.
