Hilary Mantel(1952-)is a famous British writer.Her "Tudor series" which includes Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies has won the Booker Award and has been adapted into a TV series named Wolf Hall.Both of the novels and the TV series have received much attention.The two novels tell the story of Thomas Cromwell.He helps Henry ? in many aspects with his marriages,so Thomas Cromwell becomes a great person who gains Henry ?'s attention.Cromwell has been the representative of a conspirator who is treacherous and unscrupulous in British history.However,in Mantel's novel,he is a main character with a new brand.Hilary Mantel challenges the writing of traditional historical novels and creates a historical novel which is full of modern factors.This paper aims to discuss the features of the Tudors in Mantel's series.It involves three aspects,that is,the literary nature of the text,the relationship between history and literature,and the significance of literary visualization in the contemporary consumption society.This paper consists of three parts:introduction,the text and conclusion.Introduction:This part mainly introduces the author,the "Tudor series" and her representative works.At the same time,it elaborates the present study of the two novels both at home and abroad and highlights the perspective of this paper.The first chapter focuses on the literary skills of two historical novels.It discusses the image of Cromwell,the narrative aesthetics of two novels and the use of mythical stories.Meanwhile it discusses how Mantel uses these literary factors to influence historical narration and enriches the writing form of historical novels.The second chapter focuses on the tension of literature and history.It discriminates historicalism from new historicism and discusses the theme of historical literature in the perspective of cultural criticism and new historicalism.Mantel writes the British Tudor history by means of "thick description" and reveals the meanings of lowercase and plural history.The third chapter analyzes the significance of literary visualization in the contemporary consumption society.It includes the new paradigm of literary consumption and the exploration of differences between the literary texts and the television media.At the end,it reveals their special significance in the contemporary consumption society.Conclusion:This paper aims to carry out an in-depth study of Mantel's Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies.It shows that two novels have their own characteristics with a wonderful character,superb narrative skills and other literary features.Mantel writes the British Tudor history by means of "thick description" and integrates her lowercase into the plural history.The adaption of the novel into the film and television is of great significance.
