The Research On Feihongtang Yinren Zhuan Of Wang Qishu

This passage makes a monographic study to further explore people's art activities and concepts of seal studying in the Dynasties of Emperors Qianlong and Jiaqing,centering on Wang Qishu(1728-1800),a bibliophile,a collector for seals and a poet as well,and his work,“Feihongtang Yinren Zhuan”.The discussion focuses on four parts: first of all,according to a series of documents,it gives a more specific explanation for some controversies,including the birth place of Wang Qishu,style name and pseudonym,dates of birth and death,official position,the varieties and amounts of publishing seal collections;Second,it researches the motivation?writing course and spreading version of this work,“Feihongtang Yinren Zhuan”,going down to the general mood of Qing society which are popular with textology and centering on the literature concerning seal collections and studies;Third,it combs the situation of seals in early and middle Qing Dynasty in this book,and stresses Wang's positive impact for the formation of the seals in Zhepai.Meanwhile,it explores some concepts in the study of seals,like “emphasis on correctness in words”,“learning from Qin and Han Dynasty”and “admiration for two seal cutting experts,Wen Peng and He Zhen in Ming Dynasty” through Wang's comments on the former experts;at last,it points some limits and disadvantages for this book.Attached there are three parts as supplements of the discussion in the body.They ere: The List of the Name,Literary Name,Native Place and Works of the Seal Engravers recorded in the “Feihongtang Yinren Zhuan”,Chronological Biography of Wang Qishu.These parts keep an eye to the fates of literatis' works in particular historic period,and they show the internal relationship between carvers' activities and cultural environment during the Early and Middle Qing Dynasty.After they are more convenient for Wang Qishu and “Feihongtang yinren zhuan”,and even in the qing dynasty seal cutting and so on heading in the direction of further research.
