A Study On The Binary Opposition Of The Narrative Structure Of "cinderella-type Story" In Thailand

Thai folk tales are the crystallization of native culture in Thailand.Due to the influence of Indian culture and Khmer culture in Thai history,Thai folk tales plays an important role in enlightenment and exhortation." Cinderella-type story" is a worldwide story,which is widely circulated in different versions.Cinderella story reflects the common social respected morality standards and value orientation,it tells the pursue of good marriage and completed family of the human society,also the tells the thought for good and evil.Comparing the Thai Cinderella with the West one,they actually share the same nature.But on the other hand,Thai Cinderella has been localized and with a strong Thai national characteristics during the constantly orally telling through the time.Based on the "Cinderella-type story” in the world folklore classification,the first chapter here is to make a definition to the Thai “Cinderella-type story”,and to make an analysis to the Narrative structure of "Cinderella-type story" that distributed in various regions of Thailand,to make a comparative analysis to the stories between the widely known western Cinderella story and the Thai style one.Finally,to demonstrate that the world recognized Western Cinderella story is not representative of the Cinderella-type story of all the traditional in conclusion.In the second and third chapters,the author draws on the structuralist analysis method of the famous French anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss,explains the construction,transformation and dissolution of the binary opposition in the narrative structure of the Cinderella story in Thailand,and link up the Thai Cinderella story with Thai society,the ideological background to analyze the reasons for the formation of the binary opposition.And further explored how the story of the Cinderella in Thailand broke through the imprisonment of the civilized and standardized folk tales in Europe,and the continuous development and change in Thailand.In the last chapter,the author combines the text and the root surviving it,from the analysis of the text content and structure to the story behind the cultural connotation,combined with the real social and cultural context of Thailand,the Thai Cinderella story behind,to convey the cultural connotation.
