| English version of Chinese bank profile has become one significant measure of domestic banks participating in international competition,sharing international financial resources as well as one important approach to disseminating Chinese culture,therefore,it has been attached more and more importance to by domestic banks and scholars increasingly.Chinese bank profiles are brimmed with Chinese culture which Chinese customers have much acquaintance with.As a result,self-evident information in bank profiles is inclined to be omitted,which undoubtedly constitutes cultural default for foreign customers belonged to English culture.In order to make target readers acquire accurate and coherent understanding of bank profiles,it is of great necessity for translators to compensate cultural default in C-E translation of bank profiles.English version of bank profile is created for overseas customers,therefore,translators are supposed to take target readers,their appreciation and reception into account in compensating cultural default.And Receptional aesthetics is exactly a reader-centered literary criticism theory,putting emphasis on readers,their reception and response of texts,which not only inspires translators to take readers into consideration in translation but also provides a new research perspective along with theoretical guidance for cultural default and compensation strategies in C-E translation of bank profiles.Based on receptional aesthetics,the thesis primarily probes into cultural default and compensation strategies in C-E translation of Chinese bank profiles.To start with,it explores specific cultural default and figures out cultural default in politics,language,history and society bringing obstacles for translation of bank profile.And then under the direction of receptional aesthetics,the thesis puts forwards four principles of compensating cultural default,in accordance with the four compensation principles,eight compensation strategies are found out in the end,which is expected to offer innovative instruction to future relevant studies.Chapter one is the introduction,including research background,research significance,research questions,research methodology and the organization of the thesis.Chapter two is the literature review,containing researches on the translation of Chinese bank profiles,researches on cultural default at home and abroad as well as researches on receptional aesthetics applied to translation at home and abroad.Chapter three is the theoretical framework,comprising a survey of receptional aesthetics,a general introduction to four important notions such as horizon of expectation,fusion of horizon,aesthetic distance and response-inviting structure along with the exploration of receptional aesthetics applied to translation of bank profiles.Chapter four expounds cultural default in C-E translation of bank profiles in length,and it investigates cultural default in politics,language,history andsociety hindering target readers from appreciating bank profiles;besides,it introduces both the formation of cultural default and the necessity of compensating cultural default in the translation of bank profiles.Chapter five studies compensation principles and compensation strategies from the perspective of receptional aesthetic,four principles are creatively proposed first,for instance,the contemplation of horizon of expectation,the realization of fusion of horizon,the reduction of aesthetic distance and the concretization of response-inviting structure;in the light of the principles,compensation strategies are worked out,for example,omission,annotation,addition,paraphrase and so forth.Chapter six is the conclusion,consisting of findings,limitations and suggestions for future researches. |
