Dunhuang Tibetan Literature P.T.239V is a prayer for Buddhist scriptures,Previously,Mr.Shi Tai’an,who has made a preliminary study on it,thought the P.T.239V Buddhist prayer is about the funeral rituals of Tibetan Bon literature.In addition to Mr.Shi Tai’an’s early statement,experts of Tibetan literature in Tokyo,Japan Yamaguchi zuiho and China’s Zhu Junjie and Huo Wei also put forward the similar vie’ws that based on Mr.Shi’s study.This paper holds that this view is still to be discussed and the source of the literature should be further discussed and studied.First of all,through the analysis about living creatures are slaughtered to sacrifice in Dunhuang literature P.T.239V,the author illustrated funeral customs in Tibetan Plateau and the Tibetan Bon,which has been wide spreded since the new Stone Age.While after the Buddhist scriptures is handed down to Tubo areas,the habits of living creatures to sacrifice also gradually changed its nature with the spread of Buddhism.The first part of this paper starts from this point and bases on the era background and the folk customs and according to the the characteristics and the social background of the literature to explain the source of and significance of this paper.Secondly,Dunhuang written volume P.T.239V cited Braha,the horse king ’s story of Mahayana.Although the previous academic research has not involved in it and this neglected part showed its uniqueness in the literature that is different from other ones.The second part makes a detailed research analysis on the source of Buddhist Avalokitesvara and the horse king ’s story,and does some research in the evolution of Scripture in"Tripitaka" in "King" and the jewel of Mahayana Buddhist scriptures,history books,other Dunhuang literature and cave paintings.This paper put the emphasis on the literary characteristics of the Dunhuang written literature.
