| The objective of this thesis lies in that it examines the influence of cultural distance on Chinese cultural goods export and analyzed the current situation of cultural industry in China based on the trade theories. In the empirical part, different from previous literatures by using a generalized gravity model, this thesis uses the panel data based on country-and product-related factors and applies the interaction of cultural goods and cultural distance in a fixed effect model to test the influence of cultural distance on the cultural goods export from China in year 2015.The result of the empirical analysis shows a positive influence of cultural distance on the cultural goods export from China to other countries.Based on the theoretical framework, two main explanations are given. For one reason, cultural goods are essentially heterogeneous goods and they are also inherently differentiated from other goods.China has absolute advantage in producing these cultural goods. For another reason, with the rapid growth of China and popularity of Chinese culture, people in developed countries with relatively higher income level and bigger cultural industry markets have demand preference for Chinese cultural goods. Also,China has the comparative advantage in turning the production of most labor-intensive cultural goods into an industry with stronger scale economies. In the policy recommendation,it is recommended that Chinese culture and traditions should be enhanced domestically through stronger sense of self-confidence.By deregulating the cultural industry and import limitations, the market will exert its own competitive mechanism and stimulate the traditional culture to be innovated in a modem way.Only with stronger domestic cultural output can we expect a long-lasting net export of cultural goods. The protection for infant cultural industries should be laid more emphasis on.The completion of cultural industry management and the protection of copyright should also be put on the agenda. |
