Mao Zedong's Political Interpretation Of "Dream Of The Red Chamber" And Its Contemporary Enlightenment

As a great proletarian revolutionist and politician.Mao Zedong has made great contributions to the education and transformation of society.He has a unique perspective when reading and analyzing literary works,which is fully illustrated in his political interpretation of Dream of Red Mansions.The most striking feature in his interpretation lies in the political approach he adopts,namely,class struggle and class analysis,to interpret and analyze the Chinese classic and to put his interpretation and analysis into his political practice.Therefore,it is of great value to study the process of Mao Zedong's interpretation of Dream of Red Mansions and to summarize the characteristics of his reading of the novel.It will not only cast light on a proper understanding of Mao Zedong,but also provide a new perspective in reading and appreciating Dream of Red Mansions.Besides,it sets an example of solving academic and political problems from historical and political perspectives and approaches.Focusing on textual,political and cultural analysis,this thesis examines the relationship between Mao Zedong and Dream of Red Mansions through literature research and case analysis,with reference to The Selected Works of Mao Zedong and The Collected Works of Mao Zedong.This thesis gives a statistic analysis of the frequency of Mao Zedong's use of Dream of Red Mansions(reference to the characters,use of the language and allusion to the work,etc.)in different stages of his political life(from the Jinggangshan Period,Zunyi Conference,the 7th CPC,to the early days of PRC)in order to reveal the impacts and significance of Mao Zedong's reading and political interpretation of Dream of Red Mansions to his time.To reveal the political relationship between Mao Zedong and Dream of Red Mansions,this thesis carefully analyzes Mao Zedong's political interpretation of Dream of Red Mansions from the perspectives of background,reason,status,value,framework,characterization and social influence.In particular,this thesis takes Mao Zedong's criticism of Yu Pingbo's study of the novel as a typical case to illustrate the great impacts of interpreting Dream of Red Mansions from a class angle and associating academic research with politics.It is characteristic of Mao Zedong to interpret Dream of Red Mansions from a Marxist,historical approach and link his interpretation with the political realities.The most important cultural implications of Mao Zedong's interpretation of Dream of Red Mansions are as follows:literary works should be read from multi-angles;there should be different reading methods;reading involves dealing with the relationship between literary works and politics properly.
