Word class categorization has always been a heated and throny issue in linguistic study and the word class problem in over 1000 analytic languages can be seen as the Goldbach Conjecture in linguistics. In the 36 thAnnual Conference of the German Linguistic Society in 2014,the issue of linguistic categories of word classes is regarded as the study of “God Particles” of language.Word class labeling in modern Chinese has been a hard-nut to crack in lexicography, thus, word class labeling in Chinese-foreign language dictionaries faces much more tough problems, since they take word class labeling in Chinese dictionaries as its chief source. Therefore, this thesis,on the basis of the Two-level Word Class Categorization Model in Analytic Languages, taking “X化”disyllabic lexemes from authoritative Grande Dictionnaire Chinois-Fran?ais Contemporain(hereinafter shorted as GDCFC)as its research object,is intened to make a systematic empirical study on the word class labeling of “X化” disyllabic lexemes, hoping to provide implications for Chinese word class problems. It is found after research that among all the 107 “X化” disyllabic lexemes,54 lexemes are treated as multi-category lexemes, taking up 50.4%.This phenomenon is contradictory to the results we found in Modern Chinese Dictionary(the sixth edition)(hereinafter shorted as CCD6),where just a few “X化” disyllabic lexemes are treated as multi-category lexemes.Besides, the results from research on senses, definitions and exemplifications of “X化 ” disyllabic lexemes in GDCFC suggest that GDCFC recognizes and collects the self-reference usages of “X化” disyllabic lexemes, however, sets few independent entries for them. What’s more, word class labeling of “X化 ”disyllabic lexemes in GDCFC basically conforms with the Principle of Translating by Word Class, however, there are also quite a few lexemes are processed with blending translation.Through investigation on word class labeling of “X化 ” disyllabic lexemes in GDCFC,this thesis not only deepens studies on word class labeling in Chinese-foreignlanguage dictionaries, but also deepens the study of word class categorization in Modern Chinese and contributes to the improvement of compilation of both Chinese dictionaries and Chinese-foreign dictionaries.
