A Study On Teaching Skills Development Of College English Teachers

With the deepening of the degree of globalization,English ability has become an indispensable skill in modern society.College is an important period for students to learn English,and the English ability a student acquired in this period will have a lasting influence on his or her future.Whether college English teachers have great teaching skills,and whether can they make the most of limited class time,have crucial impact on students' English learning.The key to improve the quality of English teaching lies in the development of teaching skills of these college English teachers.The purpose of this study was to investigate the present situation of teaching skill development of college English teachers,to analyze the existing problems and try to put forward some strategies which are helpful in improving the teaching skills of college English teachers.In this study,90 English teachers from Sichuan International Studies University were investigated by questionnaire aimed at the present situation of teaching skill development.First of all,this study sort out the concept,composition and classification of teaching skills.Then based on the previous studies,the basic process of teaching and teacher's specific behavior,teaching skills are divided into pre-class teaching skills,classroom teaching skills and after-school Teaching skills three dimensions,and a total of 18 kinds of specific teaching skills.Based on this classification,the questionnaire was designed and the survey was conducted and the results of the survey were analyzed statistically.Finally,on the basis of the survey results,the college English teaching situation and the author's own experience,this paper put forward some suggestions for improvement.Through investigation the author found that there were some problems in the development of college English teaching skills,such as teacher's teaching concept was still very traditional,they paid too much attention to the course content and the ignored students;teachers were seriously lack of some important teaching skills such as Interest stimulate and maintain skills,Teaching reflection skills,etc.;and they weren't fully aware of the importance of skills such as Evaluation of feedback skills,Use of modern information technology skills and so on.On the basis of analyzing the investigation,this paper put forward some suggestions to promote the development of teaching skills of college English teachers,hoping to provide useful reference for teachers and colleges.
