From the end of the19 th century to the Pacific War Eve,the two generation Japanese American immigrants showed different degrees " Sense of Japanese" under different backgrounds.The first generation Japanese American to the United States mainly as migrant workers and most of them wanted come home instead of being a permanent resident there.Moreover,because they accepted the education of Meiji government’s imperial state,they have a strong “Sense of Japanese”.However,because of the social exclusion and the indifference of Japanese government,they have "abandoned" feeling.After the first ten years of twentieth Century,they began to settle in the United States permanently.In the disadvantage of environment of hierarchical order,in order to improve the social status of the United States by strengthening the cohesion of the group,they strengthen their " Sense of Japanese " gradually.Around the same time the Japanese government which is in the period of imperialist expansion,aware of the importance of Japanese immigrants,so they changed their indifferent attitude to the overseas Japanese,to strengthen their "Sense of Japanese " by various ways and hoped to be used.The text is divided into four parts.Firstly it analyzes the reason and purpose of the first generation of Japanese immigrants to the United States in the late twentieth Century and early nineteenth Century and summarizes immigrants’ situation,including the Japanese government and the American Society’s attitude towards them,from which we can see the first generation immigrants’ " Sense of Japanese ".The second part explores the tradition and development of Japanese Americans’ " Sense of Japanese ",including the influence from the State Shinto in the Meiji period,and the combat between them and Philippines in order to maintain the hierarchical order in the U.S after arriving the U.S.,during this process they strengthen their " Sense of Japanese ".After 1920 s and 1930 s,the Japanese government reposition on immigration because of it strategy demand,they hope they can strengthen the second generation’s " Sense of Japanese " by transnational education,so the Japanese government can use it.The third part explores the process of strengthening and reaching its peak "Sense of Japanese" before the Pacific War,including Japanese government’s inciting Japanese American immigrants pro-Japanese propaganda to the American,and to make donations of Japanese soldiers in the front line of war,showing their cultural expression " Sense of Japanese ",this kind of emotional eventually culminated in the overseas Japanese National People’s Congress meeting.The fourth part describes they could not continue their compromise national consciousness after the Pacific war broke out,so the "Sense of Japanese " turned to the Japanese American.This article makes a deep research to the living situation of Japanese American immigration and immigration history,their " Sense of Japanese " has been changed because of the change of external environment,the Japanese immigrants for their own survival inclined to the "American Spirit" until the Pacific War broke out which brought " Sense of Japanese " to the end.
