Genre is a conventionalized social action with certain communicative purposes to accomplish.The traditional genre analysis mainly dwells on textual description,which shows some limitations on the framework to give sufficient interpretation on practical texts.Based on Bhatia's multi-perspective genre analysis model,the thesis analyzes tourism advertisements from a new perspective and intends to adopt a multi-dimensional framework called Critical Genre Analysis,viewing genre-based discourse analysis as three-dimensional—textual space,generic construction,and social space.In the textual space,the study selects the Systemic Functional Linguistics model as a theoretical framework to examine the textual features of tourism advertisements.In the generic construction,it attempts to adopt Hasan's Generic Structure Potential theory to examine the distinctive structure of the particular genre.In the social space,the model employs Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis to examine the social aspects of tourism advertisements.By giving detailed critical genre analyses of tourism advertisements,it can not only give a new perspective to the investigation of tourism advertisements,but also show how the ideology of readers is influenced and controlled by various means employed by the designers of tourism advertisements.This thesis offers a new perspective to analyze genre,which attempts to adopt a multi-perspective approach to the traditional textual analysis,intending to conduct a deeper explanation of the exploitation of genre.The thesis intends to develop a multi-dimensional framework to conduct a deep investigation of its textual,generic and social aspects,which provides a new perspective to the former researches of tourism advertisements and suggests some references for the future design of tourism advertisements.In addition,we all know that people put too much emphasis on the linguistic features when reading a new discourse,such as words,sentences and the given information.By given detailed analyses of tourism advertisements in this thesis,not only can it show the readers how to proceed this new analytic framework,it also shows them how to develop an integrative view in dealing with a given discourse so as to help readers increase their consciousness about how language contributing to the dominance of some people.
