On Mu Dan's Acceptance And Transportation Of The Intellectual Features About Auden's Poetry In The 1940s

In 1940 s,under the dual demands of the turbulent social environment and the development of poetry,Mu Dan consciously accepted the poetry of Auden.It is ‘intellectuality' that is a distinctive feature of Mu Dan's creation in this period,although he recognized the of Auden's poems from many angles.‘Intellectuality' is an important poetic category to express the rich emotion of modern people.It requires that the ideological capacity and rational thinking should be pursued,romanticism or sentimentality should be abandoned and the observation of the object should be emphasized.It is noteworthy that Mu Dan not only accepted the poetry of Auden,but also transformation.They both have adopted the ‘Dramatization of New Poetry',‘Objective Correlative',‘Turning Thought to Feeling' and other means.Meanwhile,the way of thinking used in their creation also reflects the intellectual features.However,Mu Dan was unconsciously influenced by the traditional spirit.He is based on Chinese realities and his own situation,to embrace the reality with a different attitude,to seek the integrity from the ‘Split Identity',to express the anxious inner world of intellectuals with ‘New Lyricism'.The first part mainly studies Mu Dan's acceptance of Auden's poetry.This section discusses from four aspects,which is the ‘Dramatization of New Poetry',‘Objective Correlative',‘Turning Thought to Feeling' and characteristics of the intellectual thinking.‘Dramatization of New Poetry' increases the intellectual color of poetry with two methods which are objectification of subject and the dialogue of sound.At the same time,Auden and Mu Dan's poems also turn the thought to feeling,unify the sensibility and the intellectuality.They both use ‘body thinking' and turn abstract concepts into concrete images to make their poems have this characteristic.They also seek appropriate objective correlative implied emotions.Moreover,the objective objects they seek are often different from the traditional ones because these objects are often combined by means of metaphor.In addition,their way of thinking on the one hand to presents the contradiction and opposition;on the other hand,it also shows a variety of dialectical.It is the Imaginary logic that realizes the purpose of poets to express these complicated thoughts.The second part mainly analyzes Mu Dan's transformation of the intellectual features in Auden's poems.When Auden's poems were introduced into China,they were misunderstood.Therefore,Mu Dan's study of them inevitably carries the Chinese characteristics.He examines the Chinese society with a conscious sense of responsibility,and writes the anxious ‘psychological realities' of intellectuals.The ‘I' in Mu Dan's poetry is not a lyrical subject,but a split and incomplete image.Meanwhile,he also seeks the integrity of ‘self' under the influence of the classical spirit and the new tradition of May 4th Movement.In the specific lyrical way,Mu Dan put forward the ‘New Lyricism',requires the coexistence of thinking and bloody passion.All in all,Mu Dan's poetry is not only a reference to the poetry of Auden,but also has a conscious transformation.Based on the realities of China in 1940 s,he examines the most essential existence and historical change of life.He joined himself in the battle and thought deeply about the war.It can be said that he wrote a historical corner with his bitter words.
