A Study On The The Buried Giant In The Power Mode

Kazuo Ishiguro published his seventh fiction The Buried Giant in 2016.It is happened in 6B.C that a couple of old people traveled to find their son,after the Arthur has established the kingdom.This journey is not only about individual memory,but also the collective memory with power function behind the memory.This thesis presents the function model of power with the help of Michel Foucault’s theory.It starts from the power infiltrating into space and analyzes how it trains people who live in space.While different people keep different attitudes to discipline,absolutely obedient or defendant,Kazuo Ishiguro expressed his attitude to power and focused on the common fate of human.This thesis can be divided into five parts.The introduction part concludes the international character of Kazuo Ishiguro’s writing based on his seven fictions.He does not keep the special region or race blood hood,while brakes the artificially divide of area and confuse the distinction between eastern-western,margin-centre.He does not want to chase ethnic identify,but focuses on individuals feeling in the background of history,and to reflect the common things in human history.Besides this part presents the research status and defines "power".The first section analyzes how power expresses in space,from the cave to monastery,and also Mountain Ju Ren.Through study the three space systems,this part shows power infiltrate in secret and microcosmic.The second section studys the discipline using on body.Power finishes its training on body through chivalry and religion.Gawin and the monk are not only obedience to power,but also become the controller of power to enhance it.The third section discusses people fight against power.There two kinds of characters,Jesus and Faust.They take different ways to resist power which show various meanings.The conclusion part concludes whole thesis and indicates that Kazuo Ishiguro uses two strategies in writing to fight against power,which shows the author concerns about the human common experiences.His final aim is to treat history impartially and helps to establish new harmonious social relationship.
