A Study On Jewish Community In The German Empire（1871-1914）

Jews in German region stepped into the peak period of national liberation and modernization under the guidance of the free thought since modern times.The German Empire established a new federal state in 1871.It was the golden age of Germany politics and culture,and also the golden age of the Jewish community.The population,political status,economic and cultural life of the Jewish community have changed greatly.In terms of social scale and population,although the size is limited,the Jewish community in this period was widely distributed in the big cities of Germany.All of this made Jews an active group in the German minority.The Jewish population in the German empire had obvious growth,thus before the first World War,most of the Jews had become middle class in the city.In political terms,the constitution of German Empire clearly state: “the Jews have equal status in law”.Under the environment,Jewish social life and religious activities were guaranteed.Although the process of Jewish involvement in Germany politics was relatively slow,the Jews gradually reached into the ranks of German politics by different ways.They achieved a certain degree of liberation in politics and law.In economic life,the genius of Jewish business makes them accumulate a large amount of original capital,paving the way for them to become middle class.They were active in business,industry,banking,and some liberal professions.The economic development has provided a guarantee for Jewish education,Jewish communities in the development of education and culture offers talents for the development of social economy,the Empire of the progress of science and technology and cultural prosperity.However,although the Jewish community has made certain progress in this period,the anti-Semitism still existed.The Jews also had disagreements towards German cultural.All of this led to the vulnerability of the Jewish community.As an ethnic minority group who has been committed to a long term of racial superiority of social identity,Jews failed to be the mainstream of society.The differences between Jewish culture and German culture also made the Jewish community can not be fully integrated into German society,which buried a hidden danger to the Holocaust.
