Each country has its own unique cultural and artistic characteristics,the difference of which between China and the West has existed since ancient times.The religious scul pture art in China and the West is like a mirror,which can reflect the artistic form and ar tistic charm of Chinese and western countries in different periods and different countries.Due to the differences in the aesthetic of Chinese and Western religious culture,the reli gious sculpture art forms,styles,and themes are different and have their own highlights,but there are a lot of similarities.In a certain point of view,arts are interconnected.Scul pture art can be regarded as one of the earliest forms of artistic expression.We will appr eciate the different religious sculpture arts in China and the West by comparison.In this paper,we will discuss the characteristics of Chinese and Western religious s culpture art from different religious cultures,and the influence of people's attitude towar ds life in different beliefs.In the different religious cultures as the clue,Buddhism is ma inly as the representative of Chinese religious culture,while the West is based on Christ ianity as the focus.We compare and appreciate the characteristics from Chinese and w estern religious social background,ideological origin,and the similarities and difference s of subject matters and forms on the whole.In China,the important religions are Buddh ism and Taoism.Buddhism sculpture art is superior to Taoism sculpture art whether in q uantity or in quality in the development process of Chinese religious art.Therefore,in C hina,the religious sculpture art focuses on the most famous grotto sculpture art and disti nctive Chinese architectural sculpture,such as the roof sculpture art of the Hall of Supre me Harmony in the Imperial Palace.We compare the character and meaning of portrait statue and the traditional western representational figure statue to find that these religiou s sculpture arts have the same origin,what impacts on society and human importantly.T hrough the comparison and appreciation of religious sculpture art,so as to achieve a bett er understanding of the characteristics of Chinese and Western religious sculpture,and i t's good for inheritance and protection of different characteristics of religious art.
