The World Tourism Organization has predicted that China will have become the top tourist destination and the fourth tourist-export country in the world by the end of 2020. The establishment of the tourism English curriculum and the cultivation of the high-quality foreign tourism talents have become one of the tendencies of development for talents cultivation in colleges. In 2007, "College English Curriculum Requirements" had stated, "to promote English teaching reform with information technology, colleges and universities are trying to explore an internet-based English listening and speaking teaching model, which will really realize a shift from the traditional teacher-centered transmission-acceptance teaching model to the innovative student-centered enlightenment-interaction teaching model." Therefore, the teachers teaching tourism English have been committed to thinking and discussing how to improve the teaching effects. In recent years, more scholars have engaged in the researches of tourism English teaching, other than in the empirical researches in improving the teaching effect of tourism English in workshop by wechat in the extracurricular activities. Thus, guided by the theories of needs analysis and cooperative learning, this study, with 72 students from two parallel classes of the tourism English major in Zhangzhou Institute of Technology as the objects of research, conducted the traditional online-practicing learning model and the novel wechat-based “workshop” learning model by the tools of tests and questionnaires. After the statistics and analysis of the collected data by software SPSS17.0 is performed accurately, the effectiveness of this learning model will be tested. The experiment results show that there is a significant gap in the post-test scores of the experimental class and the control class for 12 weeks, and it is obvious that the students in the experimental class have had more progress in learning than those in the control class, which fully shows a high teaching practice value of the wechat-based “workshop” learning model. In addition, the questionnaire results indicate that compared with the traditional learning model, the wechat-based “workshop” learning model is easier to realize teacher-student interaction and student-student interaction, widelywelcomed by the students in the experimental class, so as to increase the students’ interest in learning further. Finally, based on the results of this study, the author puts forward some teaching enlightenment and suggestions. The wechat-based "workshop" learning model can be tentatively applied and populated in extracurricular activities in colleges, replenish the tourism industry knowledge to the students, and train a good sense of unity and cooperation of the students, which will realize the extension of the English teaching in colleges from the class inside to the class outside.
