The relationship of Haruki Murakami's novel and monogatari has called more and more attention in academic world, the special style of his writing which connects monogatari with novel makes his story traditional and modern. His literary view on monogatari also has an inclusive feature and includes the way he views the world, which also makes his world of novel becomes dark deep like virgin forest. This thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter is the basis of the whole paper, because "monogatari" has a long history in Japanese and the word is very meaningful,so it is necessary to introduce it.Therefore,as the base work of this thesis, the first chapter elaborates on the meaning of monogatari, includes the meaning of monogatari to Haruki Murakami. This part can be divided into two aspects, the first part explains monogatari from the dictionary meaning, and discusses the word combines with Japanese classic literature from two aspects of classical and modern, then discusses the relationship of this word with "novel" of Japanese meaning and Japanese modern novels from etymology and the development of its meaning. The second part makes a detailed discussion of monogatari in title of this article, which explains Murakami's usage of monogatari. The final part makes an outline of this thesis. The second chapter and the third chapter are the core of this article, which discuss the two most important contents of Haruki Murakami's view on monogatari from two aspects:classical and modern. The second chapter expounds the factors of Japanese classical monogatari in Haruki Murakami's view of monogatari, and discusses the relationship of his view with tradition and especially associated it with the Japanese literature and classical theories. From the perspective of Japanese classical monogatari literature,Haruki Murakami take the initiative to learn the classical monogatari elements, especially the introduction of unrealism and plot factor;from the view of classical literary theory, his view emphasizes the function of literary as social tools, his open view of monogatari is similar with one of the Japanese classical theories. But he also reflects a view above criticism in his novel, which has similarities with one of the Japanese classical theories and has beauty of traditional Japanese-style.Kafka on the Shore is a suitable novel to support this view, from the classical monogatari in this novel, the unrealism of this novel can be explained. And from the view of metonymy,we can also discuss its classical feature. The reason for choosing this novel is that it combines the many elements of classical fiction:the multi-layered world, the ghost, and the classical novel that supports the whole novel......The description of derailment also reflects the concept of mourning. The third chapter discusses the relationship between the view of Murakami Haruki and the modern unconscious psychology, and points out that Murakami Haruki is not just a "speaker" who returns to the ancient storyteller, but also an innovator.Murakami Haruki has been concerned about the human mind, especially after he met psychologist Kawai. For Murakami Haruki, the storyteller has to enter the ground, and cure themselves and others through dialogue, this process is consistent with the psychological treatment. The underground world is like the fog of the forest, and the unconscious is difficult to interpret. This chapter chooses the novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which is full of the image of the "well",and the image is the representative image of the underground world of Murakami,as a way to save himself,he goes down into the deep consciousness.Under the influence of this view of monogatari,Murakami Haruki created an underground world in which Japanese traditions and modern psychology are intertwined. In this world, there can be no distinction between subject and object, time and space, life and death. This wonder is the unique scenery of Murakami's literature,it is the reason why his works can cross the country, recognized by the world, and make so many people immersed in.
