A Practice Report On The Translation Of ITU Standard Names From The Perspective Of Translation-Shift Theory

Along with the successful implementation of the important developing strategies,such as “The Belt and Road” and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank,China’s links and merge with the global economy are becoming more prosperous than ever before.Adopting international standards is helpful for the standardization of production and the reduction of international trade barriers,which will promote the extensive commonality and interchangeability of our products,thus a good international competition environment among the world will be achieved.Therefore,Chinese government attaches great importance to the adoption of international standards,and our standardization department began to adopt international standards and advanced foreign standards gradually in 1982,so the translation work of ITU standard arose in that proper time and conditions.This thesis is a practice report on the translation of ITU standard names.The author undertook the translation task with other two classmates in August of 2015,and the task takes us five months for the whole translation practice.Through the process,the author gains rich experience in the translation of ITU standard names,and tries to analyse and solve translation difficulties under the guidance of Translation-shift Theory.This translation practice report mainly consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces task background,task description,and task objectives and significance.The second chapter describes the whole process of translation,including the pretranslation works,the concrete translation process,and the post-translation works.The third chapter concerns theoretical basis,which mainly introduces the theorybackground and theory contents of translation-shifts.In the fourth chapter,the author applies level shifts and category shifts to analyse and solve the problems in translation of ITU standard names with concrete examples.In the fifth chapter,the author concludes this translation practice report from three aspects: finding,experience,and suggestions,in the hope of enriching translation practice,and also looking forward to providing a bit of help and experience reference for the people who work for standard translation.
