In the late 19 th century early 20 th century was an important period for the United States,the transition from 19 th century to the 20 th century,as well as the changes of the time,but also the transformation of American society.On the one hand,industrialization brought huge wealth,on the other hand,the American people to enjoy the wealth of economic development at the same time,also increasingly under urbanization brings a series of problems.In view of the urban social problems,various social strata,especially the white middle class with higher education began to re-examine the society,to find a way out.At the beginning of the 20 th century,dominated by a white upper middle class reform movement,known as the "progressive movement" in history.In this paper,we study the place for social movement is formed by a group of white middle-class people with higher education guide.This group is mainly composed of women's reform in urban problems concentrated area,has launched a social relief campaign,designed to help new immigrants to the United States to adapt to American life as soon as possible,to try to solve a series of social problems are caused by urbanization and industrialization."Hull house" is a typical representative of social movement for placement,it led by Jane Adams and others,at that time to promote the development of urban slums and the improvement of the social politics plays an important role.The first chapter mainly introduces the history of this great progressive era environment under urban problems,in the face of urban problems,the first carried out by many social resettlement is roughly in Chicago.The second chapter key listed are typical representative--Hull house,the author discusses its founder,the cause of the rise,activities,organization structure,characteristics and reasons of the decline of points,focus is to explore the hull house what is institution.In the third chapter concludes that hull house is the organization of urban reform practice,in this chapter the author respectively from a political perspective,immigrant identity perspective to argue.The last chapter is the evaluation of hull house,to the impact of immigration,vocational education,school education,and finally reached hull house is citizen participation in urban reform practice,public awareness to promote reform and development of city.
