| Manga is a narrative art which integrating the presentational language of drawing,films,and literature,but constituted by static frames making it distinct from the written description literary works or dynamic images display films,due to this particularity manga is called the third media between text and images.According to the theory of art and literature which have classified Time Arts and Space Arts by their existing ways,it can be seen that the comprehensive form of presentational language makes the artistic attribute of manga manifesting both time’s construction and space performance.At the same time,in the respect of narrative perspective,narrative indcludes two parts: story and depiction,that is "tell what" and "how to tell",which is also the story content and narrative technique.Therefore,to study on the space-time narrative of manga,in addition to the form of its formative language,we can not lose sight of these two aspects.The original manga works,Little Yu,not only reflects the space-time in the artistic attribute and narrative structure,but also meticulously echoes the story theme and significance by characters and plot which is related to the informartion of time and space.Basing on this overall effect,it can be said that the expression of space-time narrative is elatively concentrated in Little Yu.Little Yu depicts a nine-year-old little girl Mo Yu has gone through a series of adventures since she moved to the Lin Zhi town with her parents who worked on the restoration of cultural relics.With a pure and fresh style,this manga includes descriptions of custom culture,myths,and daily life in the town.Through a little girl’s exploration and from her perspective,it shows us a fantasy world whose boundary is blurred with reality.This manga has richer connotation and profounder level because the story content is fine and warm but frequently touches on rules or order of life and death which focus on both natural existence and human being.This thesis illustrates Little Yu as the object of study,analyzing and stating three parts of this manga which is from outside to inside covering the frames,narrative technique and story content through the visual angle of space-time,attempting to make a thorough interpretation of how Little Yu to apply the time and space for narrative.The conclusion of this thesis is that: space-time narrative in Little Yu is not limited to the manga itself’s artistic attribute and the forms of expression,it is also highlighted in the narrative technique and the plot.Subject matter,content and formative form have been integrated in space-time becoming the unique narrative feature of Little Yu.Through the construction of time and the regulation of space,the author creates a real and visional narrative effect which makes the truth of the plot difficult to distinguish,as well as expressing thoughts and feelings by space-time to make know the connotation of the story,which explores the basic problems of life and death,existence and so on,and reflects the author’s world view and the understanding of space-time.This thesis is divided into three sections,introduction,main body,and conclusion.The introduction outlines the development of modern manga artistic forms in China and the narrative features of Little Yu,summarizing the current study situation that involve spatio-temporal narrative of manga,and explains the study significance.Besides,basing on the temporal and spatial classifications of literary and artistic works,the introduction defines the related concept of the space-time narrative,and interprets manga which has been called "paper movie" itself’s spatio-temporal artictis features.In the main body,there are three chapters,by the case analysis,through the spatiotemporal visual angle to respectively discourse upon time and space which are setted in its frames,narrative and story,with those constituting manga space-time narrative.And to work on revealing that: time and space how to play a role in the story of Little Yu,and Little Yu how to apply manga space-time narrative to integrate its theme,content and compositional form.In this way,to explore the cultural implications which is under the narrative of time and space in the story.The conclusion summarizes the space-time narrative features of Little Yu and the world view which reflects the thinking of the author about normal life such as living,aging,death and illness.And points out that space-time narrative of Little Yu is not only limited to the manga itself’s artistic attribute and the forms of expression,but also highlighted in the narrative technique and the plot.The author creates a real-and-visional story atmosphere,integrates the subject matter,content and formative form by the time and space which are setted in its frames,narrative and story. |
