With the growth of music undertaking in China,an increasing number of foreign musicians are willing to come to China to act as a judge or for music tours. This report is based on a Chinese-English consecutive interpreting practice taking place on the opening ceremony of Shenyang International Guitar Festival.Entrusted by the Committee of Shenyang International Guitar Festival, the author was responsible for the interpreting practice on the opening ceremony. The author finds out that it is not available to take notes and the time span that speaker delivered the source language is less than 1 minute.By reviewing the literature, the author finds out that this kind of interpreting can be classified into short consecutive interpreting.Hence, the author decides to finish the interpreting practice by adopting working memory.During the opening ceremony interpreting practice, the author was confronted with three difficulties: extemporaneousness of the speech, figures of speech in Chinese and complex sentences with massive information. Both of the two phases in Gile's Effort Model have mentioned memory, which fully embodies the importance of memory in interpreting.Under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model, the author puts forward three working memory skills to cope with the previous three problems, which are semantic memory, associative memory and episodic memory. These three working memory skills are closely related to the four components of working memory and can assist the author to solve those problems effectively. After analyzing the record, the author finds out that working memory still has some limitations but this report can provide some precious suggestions for future practices and researches.
