Discourse Analysis Of Commentaries Of BBC Humanistic Documentary Chinese New Year From Functional Grammar

With the development of film and television industry,the documentary as a “mirror” of human beings,is the image manifestation of human culture and thought.At the same time,the documentary also plays an important role in cross cultural communication.The humanistic documentary can not only reflect the people's real production,life,emotion,but also can convey the humanistic value and national consciousness in intercultural communication.As a supplement to the documentary commentary,the role is particularly important.The commentary can not only highlight the theme,but also can make up for the lack of time and space,so that it can convey information to the audience better.Compared with the visual image,the commentary can more accurately express the intention of documentary creators,the audience can understand the information displayed in the visual image objectively and accurately.This paper take BBC documentary Chinese new year as the research object,the three meta functions in systemic functional grammar as thetheoretical framework,from the transitivity system of ideational function,mood and tense of interpersonal function,thematic structure and cohesion structure of textual function to sum up the general language features of humanistic documentary.The study shows that the material process is the largest proportion,declarative and present tense used frequently,unmarked themes and simple themes are in a large proportion,grammatical cohesion in reference,conjunction and lexical cohesion in repetition is relatively frequent.The functional stylistics is mainly used in written genres,the research of colloquial humanistic documentary is rare.This paper aims to study the commentary of Chinese new year to summarize language characteristics of humanistic documentary,and thus proves that the functional stylistics is beneficial to the commentary writing to demonstrate the important role of the ideological and aesthetic significance of the documentary.In summary,with the BBC documentary Chinese New Year as the research object,this paper tries to summarize the stylistic features of the documentary and provide help for this kind of documentaries.
