Each individual is trapped by the torrent of history and also every generation have its own fate.So do those Chinese who lived in the second half of 19th century.They are called"educated youth" whose fate is closely tied to the so-called movement "return to the rural labor and work for the establishment of the country".They,as a gereration grew up in such a special political circumstances,witnessed the major events of the country and experienced kinds of bitter sweetness.Their life story,anyway,worth a page writing in the history as well as a piece in our mind.The only difference between man and woman among those "educated youth" is the pronoun "female educated youth".So what is the difference?In such a society in which male is still the dominant gender,there is still a wonderfully long but bitter story of those female youth to tell.This documentary,after many times of visits,a series of considers,finally chose two women among many candidates prepared in the preliminary stage as our main interviewees for their life stories are so much a miniature of heir generation.The two interviewees are Yuan Suqiong and Li Rongfang,both of them were in 1952,the year of Dragon in traditional Chinese zodiac year and went to twelve regiment battalion in Yunnan Production and Construction Corps(also called ZheFang farm)after their graduation from middle-school in 1971.Since then,their life seemed be driven into a similar fate of marrying someone and gave birth to babies.However,all of this changed after the political call of returning to cities of those once "educated youth" after seven or eight years later.One of our interviewee,Yuan Suqiong,for the care of her daughter's illness,would have to stay in the rubber plantation tapping day and night while the other one,Li Rongfang,was determined to get divorce and returned to the city for a further education.Later,Li started her own business which dramatically distinct her life from her company Yuan.This documentary,displayed from a major and a minor story lines using a cross talk to present the whole story.The Yunnan farm,what we could find today,is the once Construction Corps;the people in their elderly age now is the once boys and girls in their golden age;Today's life is the outcome of once choice.Their dictation,record today,is not a past experience of their life,not a dramatic contrast of their different life,but a deep perceive of future life.
